CCDC Foundation has been involved in the acquisition and planning of several greenways and trails initiatives.
One that we are particularly proud of is the Kickapoo Rail Trail (KRT). For nearly 20 years, CCDC Foundation worked along with the Champaign County Forest Preserve to purchase the rights from CSX railroad to be able to develop the trail, a 24.5-mile stretch of abandoned tracks between Urbana and Kickapoo State Park. Dedicated years of negotiations finally yielded results and, in 2014, KRT construction began.
