In 1900, there were more than 50,000 acres of woodland in Champaign County. Today, fewer than 7,000 acres remain. One of the ways that CCDC Foundation is working to improve the numbers is by co-sponsoring the East Central Illinois Master Naturalist Native Tree and Shrub sale.

In the past, we administered the Wandell Tree Trust. The Wandell Tree Trust was established as a tribute to Mr. Willet Wandell – a local nurseryman and tree propagator that promoted the use of trees in urban design. The Wandell Tree Trust provided matching grant funds, which supplied thousands of trees for Champaign County communities, Park Districts, and the Forest Preserve District.
