In 1900, there were more than 50,000 acres of woodland in Champaign County. Today, fewer than 7,000 acres remain. One of the ways that CCDC Foundation is working to improve the numbers is by administering the Wandell Tree Trust.
Wandell Tree Trust
The Wandell Tree Trust was established as a lasting tribute to Mr. Willet Wandell – a local nurseryman and tree propagator that promoted the use of trees in urban design. The Wandell Tree Trust provides matching grant funds, which supply thousands of trees for Champaign County communities, Park Districts, and the Forest Preserve District.
